Were Turks & Caicos, Anguilla, Montserrat, and the BVI smart to decline independence from the UK?

Compared to their independent British West Indies neighbours, namely Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana, the above four seem to have higher quality of life and more safety because Britain owns and rules the islands.
